F01000 AXIII Rectangular quarrying hollow. Layer (1): topsoil. Layer (3): chipples and loose stones - immediately under layer one in its northern side. Layer (4): brown earth with clay and small stones (subsoil). Appears to be a rectangular hole, where quarrying has taken place working from natural fault lines. On removing half, the only finds have been one pebble and one flint fragment. A few pieces of burnt oolite were present in layer (3) - remarkably little when comparing this with ditch infills -  and the lowest, layer (4), contained a lot of light coloured earth - not usual in the rampart ditches. There was no evidence to show any rampart tumble lying over the hollow, or having tumbled into the hollow, which must be part of the comparatively modern quarrying cm wide. Finds:  One pebble and one flint fragment.
