Hearth, showing as a neat rhombus with sides 45-55 cms long formed of 2 or more rows of upright stones surrounding a large slab. The whole was heavily burnt. To the west lay a lower zone of small stones surrounded on the western edge by further uprights. This was identified at the time as a secondary phase, but the pattern of burning makes it more likely that all parts were of a single phase, and that the western annexe was a part of the fireplace with a separate function: e.g. for standing pots, or even an oven base. The fragments of burnt clay suggest that the hearth was perhaps clay lined on top of stone slabs stones,
