Large posthole indicated by packing stones and some burnt stones, showing after removal of site level 2. Clear well cut side and flat solid bottom. Fill: dark stony earth and larger packing stones. Larger and more tightly packed stones on NW and E sides, with a clear post piipe filled with looser dark earth adn much charcoal were on the S. Some grey leaching at bottom. Burnt stone especially in S and W. finds: 25 pot sherd, 42 frags of bone including longbone of animal found just to W of post pipe, 2 frags of pebble and 1 frag foreign stone [CH79/1809, 1912, 2021, 2283, 2553-4, 3689]

Irregular area of jumbled rocks many lying at different angles, surrounded by good flat bedrock, Very variable depth and uneven bottom though definitely of bedrock. A very little burnt limestone near surface.

Large double post hole. Indicated by small stones surrounded by bedrock in surface after removal of site layer (2). Curved oval plan narrower in middle, good solid bedrock sides, stepped base deeper in west. Fill: E side extremely tightly packed horizontal limestone slabs especially towards top, some burnt limestone randomly mixed with unburnt. On W side, looser packed stones and earth with some packing stones.
