Contained one sherd of pottery and some burnt stone.  PDF         1     44 cms diam   30 cms               1 1 1     http://www.crickley.org/features/all/F00251.pdf http://www.crickley.org/featurepics/hand/F00251.jpg http://www.crickley.org/featurepics/hand/F00251a.jpg http://www.crickley.org/featurepics/inked/F00251.jpg http://www.crickley.org/featurepics/inked/F00251a.jpg
F00252 F1 Post hole. 1 small piece of bone in the bottom of fill. Upper part of hole filled with chipples and topsoil, and the bottom with medium-sized stones (perhaps formerly packing) and brown earth. F00253 F1 Palisade slot 1 gully. The gully between the ragstone in the South East corner and the exposed crumbly yellow limestone in the centre was troweled out to the N. Throughout, the edge of the ragstone was vertical and 15cm high. The gully curves. Several sherds, which were of a more oxidised fabric than the pottery from the chipple layer were found in the fill of the gully. This fill consists of a mixture of chipples and topsoil. The gully has none of the appearance of a drainage gully. Possibly a palisade slot rather than a trench. Either it was cut into the ragstone at the edge of an already exposed and weathered area, or it represents a palisade against which a leveling or cobbling of loose ragstone has been built up. F00263 F1 Posthole. The apparent animal disturbance between F00252 and F00254, although its fill is disturbed by ? moles ? , is a pair of postholes intersecting and covered by the chipple packing found around the other postholes. Tentative phasing: Postholes cut in crumbly yellow limestone. Posts removed, and replaced when the chipple levelling was put down, and used as packing around posts. In this phase, some postholes were filled, or capped over, with chipples and were therefore disused in this phase. These two postholes are F00263 and F00264.  PDF         1                 crumbly yellow limestone       1 1 1     http://www.crickley.org/features/all/F00263.pdf http://www.crickley.org/featurepics/hand/F00263.jpg http://www.crickley.org/featurepics/hand/F00263a.jpg http://www.crickley.org/featurepics/inked/F00263.jpg http://www.crickley.org/featurepics/inked/F00263a.jpg
