F00415 E2 Posthole, well cut. Loose chipply fill at top. Layer (1): an infill of small stones in a dark loamy soil, extending to about half way down the posthole, and containing collapsed packing stones. Layer (2): primary fill.Yellowish clayey soil, with several packing stones at edge, and burnt stone [grey] in centre, in the postpipe. F00416 E2 Posthole. Several large packing stones appeared at its eastern edge.  This posthole was roughly and rather over cut at top but neater at lower half. Layer (1): Secondary fill to 35cms below top of hole many stones fairly small but packed. F00427 E2 Posthole, 68 cms diameter and 54 cms deep, situated on northern edge of chipple bed. This posthole was cut in leached chipple. S.E. edge cut in broken bedrock. Layering: (1): Secondary fill of large stones tightly packed in yellow brown soil, with a little chipple. (2): Primary fill leached and sticky matrix, containing few stones in light brown soil. Burnt limestone, charcoal, clinker and burnt bone were found in layer (1). F00445 E2 Posthole. Small, shallow with not very well cut sides. Irregular stones at uneven depths form the bottom. The fill was quite firmly packed, being more rocky at the top,and with more chipple. Layer (1): many packing stones in a chippley dark brown loamy soil. F01406 E2 Posthole probably belonging to the A5 group, quite similar to the centre line series F01403-5, but with much less certain edges, since it was cut into the disturbance of bedrock to the east and north of A5. The infilling was of medium to yellow earth and small stones, with no obvious packing.
