F01150 G99 Hollow - possible continuation of neolithic causway ditch. It appears to terminate in a point at the north-east corner of H99 PDF         2                         1 1 1     http://www.crickley.org/features/all/F01150.pdf http://www.crickley.org/featurepics/hand/F01150.jpg http://www.crickley.org/featurepics/hand/F01150a.jpg http://www.crickley.org/featurepics/inked/F01150.jpg http://www.crickley.org/featurepics/inked/F01150a.jpg
F01168 G99 This was a low bank of stones which was removed.  It was comprised of four layers resting upon an area of highly disturbed bedrock - F1168(5) (see section drawing 13/8/73).  Its top surviving layer (F01168(2)) was one of sharp, angular stone rubble varying in size from large slabs to small stones (see G99, plan 2). No structure or pattern could be discerned in the layout of these stones.  F01168(2) had as a 'basal' layer an apparantly laid stone surface, of medium sized and large slabs.  However, this stone slab 'surface' was present in only one small area. F01169 G99 Post hole: rock-cut sides were found further down and further to the north, indicating that the rubble of the 'stony platform' had been disturbed around the post-hole.  A possible fibula was recovered from the upper stone fill of the post-hole, and may reasonably be ascribed to this fill and not to the stony platform.  However, it may have dropped in during the disturbance for the post-hole. F01177 G99 A group of pitched stones which appeared in the form of three uprights.  The profile was slightly more convincing as a post-hole than those described in the earlier notes.  The infill was the usual dark brown soil with small stones.  Probably not a post-hole because of its shallowness: no real depth to support any post. F01178 G99 Worn stone area, very possibly the trample around an entrance.  This was found to overlie F01183, 1/3 PDF         3                         1 1 1     http://www.crickley.org/features/all/F01178.pdf http://www.crickley.org/featurepics/hand/F01178.jpg http://www.crickley.org/featurepics/hand/F01178a.jpg http://www.crickley.org/featurepics/inked/F01178.jpg http://www.crickley.org/featurepics/inked/F01178a.jpg
F01179 G99 Joint containing yellow stones.  A belt of yellow stones, possible iron-stained, was sectioned near its south west end in G99 revealing the two layer infill shown.  The top fill, in layer (1) yielded flints, but layer (2) was sterile.  The north west side of this apparent trough was a clear cut bedrock shelf: the south east side could not be located accurately, for the layer (2) fill was indistinguishable from the rubble of the stony platform, through which the trough is presumed to have been cut.  The vertical bedrock edge on the north west side might be a joint side.  Two further sections to the north east indicated that the belt of the yellow stones had no depth and that the section drawn above simply happened to coincide with a joint. There was no size difference between the yellow stones and those of the stony platform (F01183), the yellow line crossed the north east limit of F01183 and was, therefore, later that it. F01199 G99 A patch of burnt chipples and small stones which appeared below layer (1) as a circle of small burnt stones and chipples in black soil.  Half sectioning revealed a fill of almost entirely burnt stones, the majority grey.  However, these extended into the sides, either indicating a north south linear feature, or simply a small tip of burnt stones within the rubble of F01168. Complete examination demonstrated that F01199 was a circular pocket of burnt stones.  Since the surrounding rubble of F01168(4) was not burnt, the stones were clearly deposited there and not burnt in situ.
