F01952 K99 Triple posthole ? Pit + 2 postholes.Posthole suspected after removal of layer 2 revealing a dense surface. Scatter of burnt oolite. An apparently circular patch in one area of burnt stone was half sectioned, and examination of the section suggested that the edge of a feature lying to the nw of the section has been dug away. The section line was therefore extended north-westwards and the ne half of the feature removed.
reasonable, but by no means well cut edge was found on the east side, the edge on the se partly trowelled away at the beginning of the work was picked up at lower level and some large horizontal stones were treated as an edge to the nw. A further edge was then found cut into the bottom of the feature in the nw corner, and when the large blocks which lay partly over it had been removed it followed around and turned out to be the edge of a well cut circular posthole some 40cms in diameter. Its floor lay at a somewhat lower level than the floor of the main feature, at this stage thought to be a pit. The fill from the pit and the posthole was of moderately size stones lying at a variety of angles with the interstices between the stone filled by chipples, earth and innumerable roots. About 2 bucketful of stones from this fill were burnt pink or (to a lesser extent ) grey, and 1 rounded pebble of "pot boiler" was found high up on the east edge where there seemed to be a concentration of burnt stones . Some flecks of charcoal were found in two spots of the fill above the posthole (on one of these occasions so little was found that the charcoal was not bagged). Examination of the feature suggested that a further small posthole had been cut into the fill of the "pit" (more likely, in fact, to be badly cut posthole) and the removal of this showed that this posthole was defined partly by a slight difference in the fill (the stones were smaller and there were more chipples) and partly by the vertical angle of the stones around the edge.
Removal of the rest of this complex of features revealed edges which joined with those excavated earlier to make a figure of eight shape. Since the deeper well cut posthole lay just off the line of the section, its relationship with the shallower posthole was difficult to establish. However, the large blocks of stones suggest an attempt to establish a firm edge in an area of earlier disturbance, and, since they apparently join a continuation of the edge of a shallower this can be presumed to be later than the deeper posthole which the stones overlie. The third posthole was cut into the fill of the other two and must therefore be lter than them.Finds: 1 rounded burnt pebble " pot boiler" type, 1 small pottery fragments and 2 patches of charcoalse is co

F01953 K99 Posthole suspected after removal of layer (2) - circular area of more disturbed rock with one large stone on edge. Quite a lot of large stones in fill, some vertical packing stones. Edge found with difficulty, as posthole very large and edges rather broken near top; sloping out considerably to west. Little burnt stone and only one find in west half. This posthole so resembled F01821 (in K1, 2.65m away) that they were assumed adjacent corners of a four poster, but no others found. Finds: Second half considerable amount of burnt stone and pot fragments in E half only. F01954 K99 Posthole. Recognised after removal of layer (2), when expanse of fragmented, but fairly flat bedrock exposed below small stones and earth on the north side of the cutting. Posthole appeared as a circle of earth and small stones in this. Well cut symmetrical posthole in undisturbed bedrock.
Fill : Mostly small stones ( less than 7/8cm ) and dark earth.            Very few burnt pieces and those very small. Series of larger slabs (c20cm) on NW side, sloping down towards centre at 45 degrees ? packing stones. Finds: 3 Bone fragments and one animal tooth (burnt).
The only possible partner for this posthole in                   excavated area is the posthole base in F01952 - about             right depth and diameter.

F01955 K99 Neolithic bank.
Sporadic finds in upper layers (1) and (2a).
The following layer taken off very thick, and called (2b). The removal of this revealed bedrock at N end, and variously tilted stones of the bank on the rest. The exposed bedrock (berm) looked worn, and the ditch edge here was very sharp, almost rectangular. Further South there was some slope towards the ditch, though never as much as on the E side, whose West wall is everywhere in this stretch higher than the East wall. Over c2m of the South part of the edge of the bank a horizontal shelf, c60cm was cut mistakenly cut by a volunteer.
The vertical revetment stones that where a conspicuous            feature in K1 continued ,but to a lesser extent, in this            cutting. Finds: 2 finds only from layer (2b); a leaf-shaped                       arrowhead and piece of bone.

F01959 K99 Posthole? Appeared as a possible posthole after the removal of layer (2) with suitably tilted stones and a cluster of burnt material. A number of burnt stones in fill and some tilted ones that might have been packing stones, but no proper edges found, nor a flat base. No finds.
