F02652 N6 Abandoned? posthole. Small (50cm) subcircular mound of pitched stone set in brown soil. Possible pit, posthole or root disturbance. Surrounded by area of more level hard packed stone. F02654 N6 Circle of burnt stones (blue and pink) with much pottery. Possibly posthole. Lower levels show burned stone and leached grey soil. edge clear at 70cm. F02658 N6 Large pit approximately 3m diameter, centre filled with dark brown earth, surrounded by bank of small stones. Superimposed on layer (1) of SE ditch associated with F02651. Apparently modern. F02659 N5, N6, O6 Ditch. SW end appears to be cut into different material. Possibly geological fill of geological fault. Difficult to determine cut edges. Iron Age posts, some cut wholly into bedrock, but some (on bank side) cut into ditch. F02654 did not appear until ditch layers (2) + (3) were picked out despite vast quantities of pottery in the area. When exposed to the air the sides showed a dark grey/blue against the undisturbed ditch fill. Layered:
(1): brown earth, small stones
(2): brown earth, medium stones
(3): brown earth greyed by fungus, large stones
(4): yellow/grey earth, small stones, grit
(5): tumble large stones and air spaces dark gery.
(6): yellow/brown silt, red-grey limestone. wash below rubble on West slope of bedrock.

F02661 N6 Posthole? Pitched stones in an area of relatively smooth larger stones. First believed to be a posthole but in fact F02673 came out in this area later on. F02673 N6 Posthole, cut into bedrock, natural fault at South side. Disturbed area of broken stone in generally bedrock surface. F02674 M5, N6 Double posthole? Disturbed layer of broken stone in bedrock surface. The large posthole F02674, (which may even be a treble) is matched across the ditch by F02668 and F02687. the latter did not appear as early as the former. although there are 10 postholes , it is thought the they form two separate groups: A 6-poster in the N.E. and a 4-poster in the S.W. No area suggesting a hearth was found, though F02672 with burned stones and bone at a high level in the ditch, could conceivably be associated with the 6-poster. Much pottery. No contact with ditch fill. F02676 N6 Posthole. A slope of hard packed stone in a pinkish matrix gave the impression of redeposited material but could be a form of natural. Area of small pitched stones on the west side of F02658. Contained some bone and fragments of pot. Edges not very hard.
