Burnt area, identified in the surface of layer (2) of the cutting as an area of loose soil containing burnt limestone. Slight burning apparent throughout the depth of layer (2), but heavily burnt (red) limestone reappears in the bedrock. This is relatively solid with little soil matrix between the burnt stones.
