Hollow way, a late passageway about 10 metres long cut to a depth of about 50 cms through the rampart. This is very narrow (about 1m 38 cms at the centre) and without ruts for carts. It probably ran eastwards across the area now covered by F07505. It almost certainly belongs to the first sub phase of the post Roman occupation.

I.A. ditch. Runs N-S out of cutting. Layer (1): Small/medium stones in light brown slightly chippy soil. Many small and medium burnt stones. A dumped layer to make a causeway across the ditch for Dark Age passage. Layer (2): Fill of medium and large rubble, voided and white in colour. Collapse of IA 3b wall. Layer (3): Medium sized stones, some burnt pink, in medium brown soil. Layer (4): Layer of fine orange chippy dust on E slope of ditch. Layer (5): Fine grained yellow limestone dust. Layer (6): Layer of large flat slabs in matrix of pale brown limestone dust 10% burnt. Layer (7): Silt layer in ditch: fine damp yellow chipples containing large red burnt slabs. Same as layer (8). Layer (8): Large burnt red blocks in yellow chipples. Layer (9): Yellow chipple and small stone layer with burnt med and large stones at its W end. Layer (10): Yellow/buff chipple/dust layer, Prob same as Layer 11. Layer (11): Light yellow limestone dust. Layer (12): Massively thick layer of yellow limestone dust. Layer (13): Lens of small stones in centre of ditch fill. Layer (14): Tongue of concreted limestone. Includes small and large stones and soil. See feature sheets for precise relationships and sizes.
